RUSD LIBRARY BOOKS WHICH WERE CHALLENGED FOR SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONTENT -

YOU BE THE JUDGE WHETHER THESE ARE APPROPRIATE FOR MINORS TO READ.

In a school district that has been plagued by teacher-student sexual misconduct lawsuits, doesn’t it make sense that we should not expose our students to such books with sexually-graphic content?

2 BOOKS WITH SEXUALLY-GRAPHIC IMAGES WERE DISCOVERED OR PREVIOUSLY CATALOGED IN RUSD LIBRARIES:

It’s Perfectly Normal by Robie H. Harris. This has 60 full-frontal nude life-like cartoonish images of children, adolescents, adults and seniors. It also has 6 similar images of couples having homosexual and heterosexual intercourse.

Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe which shows a transgender teen performing oral sex on another teenage boy.

Both of these books were immediately removed from the school libraries.

EIGHT OTHER BOOKS WERE CHALLENGED BECAUSE OF SEXUALLY-EXPLICIT TEXT (Text below)

Four books were found in middle school libraries, even though industry standards recommended them for high school students or older. They were elevated from the middle school to the high school level.

Two books, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and PUSH by Sapphire, were challenged a second time. By RUSD School Board decision, PUSH was removed from the high schools and The Bluest Eye was restricted to 18 year olds with parental consent.
